In a 19 year period, there was a migration loss in Cuba of about 583,000 people. During that time an estimated 669,000 Cuban immigrants had arrived in the United States. By the year 2000 Cuba suffered a migration loss of -1.8 per 1000 people. They suffered a loss of 20,000 people and the population was recorded at 82,000 migrants in Cuba alone. The government of Cuba since 1979 allowed education to students of other countries under development. About 33,000 Cubans migrated to the US during the start of Fidel Castro's reign.
